Peacemaker's Journey: Owl's Apprentice - Thursday

This is a program designed to foster a deeper relationship with, and stewardship of, the earth through a variety of skill based activities that support our animal, plant and human   communities.  Whether we are visiting with wildlife rehabilitators, doing a beach clean up or harvesting natural materials for projects, children will be given the opportunity to take an active role in the care taking of our environment and the building of what it means to be a peacemaker.  One of the ways we help to support this relationship with the earth is through balancing our wanders.  During our wanders, we will strive to strike a balance between wandering with a purpose and following the flow of the child’s innate curiosity.  Some planned activities include: visits to wildlife care centers, learning with elders, peer mentoring with our younger groups, rain-sticks, basket making, natural pigments, respectful harvest, tule sleeping mats, making eating utensils, survival skills.

Peacemaker's Journey: Homesteaders
- Wednesday

In the days of the homesteaders home baked bread, going to the cellar for homemade preserves washing with hand made soap, foraging greens for salads and stews and hunting enough meat to keep for the entire year were normal daily routines. We are getting back to the basics and learning everything from wilderness skill to baking bread.  Fall in Santa Barbara is a time to prepare for the coming winter. We have a list of possible activities that we will run by the young folks to see what they most want to do! This list includes: Willow shoe racks, Soap making, Herbal First Aid Kits, Archery, Animal tracking, Tire Sandals, Flint knapping, Basket making, Beekeeping, Make your own backpack, Animal traps, Orienteering, Harvesting and carving Fire by Friction kits, Fishing Spears, Herb Gardens, Scout skills , Storytelling, Survival Kits.

Register Today! In order to keep our 4:1 child to staff ratio, we have a limited space available for these adventures; an early sign-up provides a better chance of being included on our nature experiences. Print, fill out, and return the forms below to our office by mail, fax, or email.
